I Would Like To Let You ALL Know.....

Sunshine Dec 16, 2005 08:23 PM

...how much I appreciate everyone's input and suggestions, time given, and ideas on how to make my little hobby go smoother and more enjoyable in '05. I sincerely take all suggestions (even those hard to swallow) with careful consideration and thoguht. You folks are teaching me how to raise and breed these magnificent creatures with every post and response I see. I read every one although I may not respond. Each suggestion and detail is hopefully being banked in my memory to recall when needed for me to make decisions and choose directions to follow.

I have had my best year ever with my BRB's and continue to learn as each week ends. Many lessons were presented to me this year and although not all were to my liking I must admit I have gained greater knowledge from these events than those that were more to my expectations. It's pretty easy for me to gain experience even through all being perfect, but when things go as things go in the real world....that's were the true experience comes from. This is my first year to experience reality.

I want to express a sincere thanks to Jeff Clark who has been the constant in my few short years. He has been her since my first encounter with the Just Rainbows forum and has always been there to direct me. I miss the input from of the other folks that used to be regulars. I think Mike (Flavor) may have also been regularly involved on the other Rainbow Forum although I do not recall certainally. I miss you folks who are not so regular this last year.

I would also like to say that I am thankful Dave is now a constant figure in the forum. I am learning a great deal from him as well.

Kinda mushy....but I don't care. Care we have this awesome sounding board.

Linda Misch

After 12 years in retail management, I am finally trying something new. This new opportunity is going to afford me much more freetime and a predictable schedule. I miss posting this and other forums.
I love communicating with other folks that are as passionate about snakes as I am....and hopefully I will be back on a more regular basis with lots of photos!

Chris,
....Cute snake but us southern boys like Cornsnakes because they have such nice patterns and we are not as fond of Yellow Ratsnakes because THEY are the ones with stripes. Of course it does not help that big wild Yellow Ratsnakes are often nasty tempered and they often have ticks and accompanying scars from the tick bites. Cornsnake breeding has really changed since I was doing it. I remember first hearing about albino Cornsnakes back in the 60s. They had been around in very limited numbers for some time before that though. I think the first morph of any snake I ever saw was an albino California Kingsnake which must have been in the late 70s. Lots of people were working with the few morphs that were available by then but I did not know anyone who had them. One of the biggest differences I see in Cornsnake breeding today is that the babies are so small. When I was breeding Cornsnakes all my breeders were WC from the Okatie area of South Carolina down along the coast to Central Florida. The Cornsnakes from that part of the range are big and they laid big eggs which hatched out very big babies.

Jeff,
This one isn't WC, and he's het. for all sorts of things but I love his big black borders and that rich red. Your right though, the nicest corns I've ever seen came from about 25 miles north.

...and here is a rainbow just so this post isn't 100% off topic.

Thanks, Chris O

Chris,
...That is a beautiful Cornsnake. Some of the best wild Cornsnakes are right here in the Savannah area. The best ones have orange and black rather than black and white checkerboard patterns on their bellies.

That's real cool Linda. I like and learn from this forum as well. It's funny, none of my friends or family members are interested in these animals. It's so theraputic for me to come onto the forum and share ideas with people who pay as much attention to these snakes as I do. It makes me feel like what we're doing is worth while. It's especially neat to see a person who is new to the hobby get the help they were looking for. Not only is this a place to meet like-minded folks, but it's a real resource. Go ahead and be mushy once in a while. Keep up the good posts. I'm glad to hear '05 has been good to you.

You get mushy all you want. I do feel like the forum is like an extended family with the same interests. Always glad to help and share what I've learned. I too have learned much since finding you all and the BRB forum. I do feel priviliged to have met you all and been welcomed into the group.

...Kingsnake.com has been on the internet for quite some time. For many years there was just the one boa forum and we rainbow people posted there. The boa forum was a good source of information but there were also many disagreements and squabbles there. Sometimes people's requests for help were overlooked and got lost between all the bigger threads argueing about whatever was the hot topic of the week. I think it was a very bad thing that some people did not get the help they needed on the boa forum. The forums should be about helping people to take care of their snakes more than anything else. When kingsnake.com broke this forum and several others out from the boa forum I thought that it would not work and that there would not be enough participation. Because kingsnake.com is the biggest herp site on the net it brings in the traffic numbers that bring enough new people to this forum to keep it working well and to keep it from becoming just another chat room for a small group of friends. The people who regularly post on this forum make a very big effort to help everyone who comes here asking for help and I think that is what makes this a good forum. The one thing that seems very obvious to me is that all the people who keep Rainbow Boas as pets and all the people who breed them are intelligent people who realize that helping new people is important because it is good for the snakes. It is nice to be a part of the "family" here in the rainbow boa forum.

I just read your post, and I just have to say, I really wish there where more people like you in herpetoculture. The fact that you are so accepting to new keepers and are so welcoming is a great thing to see. For someone like me who has kept Raibows before and will agian soon...I hope, its great to know there are fellow keepers like yourself that are here to contact and converse with. Thanks for your hard work answering all the repeated questions and I know there are more on this forum who do the same and I am really looking forward to being a part of this forum. Thanks
