Albino Nelsons

Quick question for you milkers, I'm thinking about adding an albino nelsons, I love the way they look. How do their colors change as adults? I've only seen a few adult pics, do they keep the vividness and what to me seems like a "semi-tranluscentness" or flatten out with time?

Albino Nelsoni only get better with age! The red deepens and the white band does one of two things... either turns pure white or a nice cannery yellow (i prefer the red an yellow adults)...

Nelson's are very impressive as adults. Here are some pics of some adults in my collection.

Yeah, its for real. one of my adult females has red scale speckling on her inner white band which gives it the appearance of an orange band in the photo. She actually looks better in person, the photo doesn't do her justice.

I have some other pics of my adults on my website.

Your female was really nice. Sorry you lost her. That's the second time I've heard of people saying that their nelson's got wedged in their cages and died. Weird coincidence.

is there any way to know which hatchling will turn out like that female, did she look considerably different as a hatchling or did the red specks develop into adulthood?

interesting thing on your male breeder, the white belly, my male het has a white belly but your male's belly pattern connects to his white bands that's pretty cool too.

i need to add a few more amel nelsoni to my collection, i think people don't appreciate them anymore cuz their not wants in right now... but these things
are incredible snakes esp. if you get a great feeder!

my `04 female (much bigger now)

1.2 (1.1 hets 0.1 amel i just lost) pic from last yr. (male is a monster, female het is coming along great!!!)

thanx for the info and the link

Actually, I didn't know she would have the speckled inner band when she was a hatchling. I picked her for her high red, low white banding, but had no idea she would develop that inner band. Maybe her offspring this summer will show that trait as hatchlings? We'll see.

Your male het is awesome. He looks really clean. Nice snake!

They lose that transleucent look that they have as babies. I've noticed that hypo Hondurans do the same thing and their color "flattens" just as you describe.

I don't think there is a snake more vibrant than an albino Nelson's milksnake. Visitors here always comment that they don't look real, or "look like candy."

They are also very tame, unlike some other types of milks. I rank them right up there with corn snakes as being one of the best pet snakes.

Tim

P.S. - I have more Nelson's pics on my webpage.
