rhyion Dec 16, 2005 09:48 PM

i live in massachusetts and have been trying to find out from websites and people if it is legal to take snakes from the wild but no one can give me a straight answer. so, does anyone know for sure, and dont just guess, if it is legal to posses wild caught snakes, such as garters and non threatened species?

thank you

You may collect non-protected native species with a possesion limit of two per species. A permit is needed for any commercial activity involving native species. Here is the link to the Code of Massachusetts Regulations. The section covering reptiles and amphibians is 321 CMR 3.05.

Laws governing imported herps is covered under section 321 CMR 9.00

I hope this helps
