Nicaraguan Nasties

JohnRobinson Dec 17, 2005 03:48 PM

I wanted to get a smaller boa ssp. to work with and decided on some Nics because I really like the colors, was told they had great dispositions and the price was affordable. I ended up with 11 of them. They are 04's and 05's. They were kind of feisty when newborns, like many babies are, and as they mature they have grown bigger and nastier. When taken from their cage they huff and puff and get tense and defensive and eventually they will chomp on me if I give them any oportunity. Several years ago I had a group of Hogg Islands that I eventually got rid of for the same reason. Just no damn fun to work with! I'm looking for under 7' and no holes in my hands or face. I got a group of these hoping to select 2.2 for color and disposition but I am ready to part with all of them about now. Any suggestions from those of you who have had more experience than I? Keep'em, let'em get a little older and see, or think about another form (suggestions?) Thanks for the help!

I HAVE 0.2 AND ONE OF THEM WAS A DEVIL. NOW AFTER A YEAR OF HANDLING HER AND JUST PATIENCE, SHE IS A GREAT BOA TO HANDLE.
GOOD LUCK WITH ALL OF THEM,
JOEL PRETZ

Thanks Joel, I may give them a little more time. Unfortunately my oldest are the nastiest. As they grow I get less interested in working with agressive, hissing, biting, 3 foot man eaters. Instead of calming down with age and regular handling they seem to be getting worse.

I'll give them another 6-8 months and if the don't settle down, they're out. Sure hope they do though 'cause I love everything about them but their disposition!

You might want to check out this company, Warwick Mills. They make puncture resisant gloves for police officers, etc. for protection against needles and things during searches. There are several other similar companies you can find by doing a search on "snake boots" or "snakeproof boots".
