Tired Beardie

hevychevy427 Dec 17, 2005 05:11 PM

For about the last 3-4 weeks I have noticed a change in my 5 and a half month old dragon. He is always sleeping under the ledge he made for himself. He does not eat much...not even interested in his crickets....one yime he ate 10 then 35 then 12 then 6.... Just picks at salad. Does not get on his branches or rocks..just dug a hole under his basking rock and stays there all of the time.
He has a 50 gal Lizard tank, a 32" 5.0 UVB tube, a 60 watt basking bulb, the interior temps are 86 degrees to 101 under the light. I spray him every day and have water in for him...what am I doing wrong?
Thanks.

You have done nothing wrong. In the winter months they go into something called brumation. They slow down their eating and sleep alot. One of mine is sleeping while the other is waiting for it to wake up and they dont eat at all for me. I dont like this stage. I like it when they are up and about eating and playing.

At 5 and a half months the beardie shouldn't be brumating at all since its still growing. My youngest beardie is six months old, he's still eating and running around like a little maniac just like he should be. I have my adult girl in a 50 gallon tank, I use a 100 watt bulb and a 50 watt bulb to heat her place so you might try raising the heat just a little and see if that might help.
