Thoughts in incubation...

lateralis Dec 17, 2005 08:19 PM

I have typically incubated my woma eggs artificially but was thinking of letting a female do it this year. Aside from the logistical nightmare of turning the cage into an incubator have any Woma fanciers found it to be otherwise impractical due to other reasons?

Cheers

I have let both jungle carpets and childrens pythons incubate maternally, and the trick is to give them a container that maintains about 88-90 F temps that is dry to touch, but that has some ambient humidity. That is the tricky part. I would start working on it now, so it is ready for the snakes. I did well with the jungles, but had some problems with the childrens.

Hi Justin, yeah thats the problem with Womas, humidity must remain high without moisture forming on eggs, surface, or substrate. Much easier to do in the controlled environment of an incubator and not worth the potential loss since I have never allowed this behavior before. Little science to be gained while risking present and future generations doesnt add up.
