Would it be ok if...

I am new to beardie ownership and I was wondering if small Bambo plants are ok to keep in a cage with beardies. I know they require lots of water and stuff and I already have that problem worked out.

The cage that I am building now is 5 feet long 3 feet wide and 3 feet high. It will make an "L" shape laying on its back with the L part 2 feet wide and 2.5 feet tall from the top of the rest of the cage. That is where the bambo is being put if its ok for them.

Also would it be ok to have a screened in box type of thing to let him run around in my house? or would screen be bad for him to try to climb on?

Here is a pic that I took of him today he should be about 1 month old.
You can't see all of him but I love the look on his face, I held up a cricket to get him to look at me.
Thanks,
Kyle

What type of bamboo are you thinking of putting into the cage? Is it the 'lucky bamboo' available in most garden stores? If so, this is deffinitely poisonous to most pets. I am not sure if it's poisonous to reptiles or bearded dragons in particular but it is poisonous for cats and dogs. Better to err on the side of caution and not include it in your dragon's cage. As dragons eat a large variety of greens, they will sample the bamboo at some point and depending on the overall strength of toxicity and how much it eats, it can make your dragon very sick or even die.

Lucky bamboo isn't technically a 'bamboo'plant, though it looks like bamboo, it's scientific name is dracaena sanderia.

Real bamboo (Arundinaria species), from what i have been able to find via research, is safe for birds. I wasn't able to find out if it's safe for reptiles. It should be fine to have the dry trunks of bamboo in the cage but a growing one may be a risk. Though safe for birds, reptiles or bearded dragons may be ill if they eat the leaves. Again, unless your own research reveals it's safe for bearded dragons (you could always ask your reptile vet, he may know himself or have contacts to talk with to find out for sure) I would leave it out. The dried trunks or branches should be fine as they are much too hard for the dragon to bite into much less eat.

the one problem i might have with that would bethinking that the extra water may take your humidity up a lil.
