Question about feeding?

davester Dec 17, 2005 10:27 PM

Well the coolest thing just happened, I got bit! I tried feeding my male, he looked a little skinny, live rat pinkies, f/t pups and f/t mice but nothing. Then I decided to use a f/t hopper mouse and "BAM" that little sucker got my finger. I can't believe how quick he was, he ate two hoppers and then took a mouse. My question is where did you guys get your feeding tongs at, I forgot how long python teeth are!

i have 4 large and very agressive feeders, and i learned that they bite pretty much the same way you did.
first thing to remember is you look more like food than the dead rodent you are holding to those heat sensing pits, they will always go for the warmest thing in front of them.
that being said, as for tongs, i went to my local dollar store and bought a pair of long barbacue tongs for 1$
you can get a good pair of reptile feeding tongs at most petshops with a large reptile section, but you will pay for them being "designed" for reptiles, and if they break you are out more than if your dollar store tongs break.
penny saved is a penny earned right, just dont confuse which ones are for feeding reptiles, and which ones are for food

I just got to say i have had that happen to my girlfriend. We feed the all the snakes the same day. She helps me feed them.
well i was feeding one, she was in defrosting the next batch of mice. she went and got the next snake to be feed and forgot to clean her hands. next thing i know she is screaming and this ball latched on to her finger. Now this ball is only 200 grams. So he is still small but her finger is also small lol.
we feed in seperate contaners then the tanks they live in.

this is the on that bit her

That sucks, even though there small they can still pack a punch! I had a Burmese latch on to me once and it wouldn't let go. You know what does the trick in that situation, keep a bottle of rubbing alcohol handy, if in an emergency you can't get a big snake off put some on your finger and touch his nose it's just like snake mace it should instantly let go!
