Photoshop fun...

Keith Hillson Dec 18, 2005 11:21 AM

I was working on a logo for myself and I really liked the pose of a pic I took. Problem one was the pics was not all the way in focus. I decided to go more illustrative with the icon part of my logo. I employed photoshop for the task and used layers. Im still tweakin the illustration but here is a layer by layer process on what I did.
-

Layer 1 The original photo buts its faded out and Ive erased parts I dont want.
-

Layer 2 White layer (the gray background is so you guys can see it). This part helps brighten the white areas and smooth themn out a bit.
-

Layer 3 Solid black illustration. I basically drew this on top of the original pic and cut out all the white areas.
-

Layer 4 White highlights just to bring out small details in the scales etc...
-

Layer 5 Black outline just to make it look more illustrative.
-

Layer 6 The eye was a few layers itself to make. I have a colorless eye as well so Imnot sure what I want yet.
-

Layer 1 thru 6 The semi-final illustration with all layers put together. Im still messing with it but its 98% done.

I think you should darken the pupil area to remove the "glassy-eyed" stare appearance, but nice work so far.

Great stuff Keith. I kinda prefer the more opaque eye, but with the silvery gray color for the eye instead of the copper-gold. Looks like it will be a great logo.

Wasil
