Have you tryed belly heat? That's better for them.

Hi, I use mats with my younger balls but personally dont think they heat the over all air as well in larger tanks which is why i'm considering ceramics but am open to any good advise on this topic. our natural climate in this region is quite cold and i have had problems in the past maintaining correct heat. i'm using red spot bulbs at the moment but they dont last very long.

many thanks,

kenny

I actually use both flexwatt and a heat lamp. My situation is similar to yours in that it is very cold where I live right now so I need both to get the temperatures correct. I have the flex-watt under one side of the tub to provide enough heat to get the temps up to 90-92 (belly heat). If I didn't have the lamp my cool side would be very cool....like low 70's, which is very bad. This is due to a low ambient room temp ~69-70 degrees. I added a dimmer to a lamp and only need it turned up about halfway up to get the temps spot on! Hope this helps.
