Is this an albino stripe or motley stripe

xblackheart Dec 18, 2005 05:52 PM

This may not be the greatest pic because she is getting ready to shed, but is she an albino stripe or motley stripe. Her belly is pure white, so I was leaning toward motley, but I know it has to do wit the thickness of the stripe.

Either way it looks amelanistic to me. red eyes?
Now, it could be stripe or stripe motley but with the nice wide stripe down the middle, like it has, I would say stripe.
So, amel stripe would be my opinion...which if you've been around here long enough, you will know, doesn't mean a whole hell of a lot....lol
Nice snake!

I think your responses are important. Some people know more than others and those are the ones you really want to hear from.
Yes, she has red eyes. No markings what so ever on her belly - pure white. I think she almost has the faded head that I see in bloodred babies (but thats just me).
thanks,
Misty

The "faded" head seems to be a common trait in the striped corns. Also in just about EVERY N.A. ratsnake

If the snake has a white belly, then it is a motley. A true motley is defined by the lack of belly pattern but you will see some motleys with a few spots on the belly.

My bad, the stripe has a checkerless belly also. I agree with Draybar that it is an amel stripe. Sorry about the confusion!

phiber_optikx Dec 19, 2005 12:58 AM

First of all that is an amel stripe. That is defined by the look of the snake not necesarily the genetics. I say this because it could very well also have the genes for motley. But since it is only showing the stripe pattern that is all it gives us to go by If it were homozygous for motley and stripe it would most likely have a mixed pattern of both motley and stripe. That is to say it would have the colors of a normal corns and have a broken stiping pattern down the length of it's body. The patternless underbelly is a trait known to both motley and stripe genes.

>If it were homozygous for motley and stripe

Not possible because motley and striped are alleles. Having a motley gene paired with a striped gene is heterozygous motley/striped.

Thanks for clearing that up.
