Why does my blood stay in the water?

rottenweiler9 Dec 18, 2005 07:27 PM

My blood python is a year old and everytime she has a water bowl she goes in there and curls up, no matter what the size of the water bowl she does this. Is she insecure? I have her in a 4ft rubbermaid container now. Any ideas?

no, your snake isnt insecure. Bloods soak. it's normal. the sky is blue, water is wet, and bloods soak. nothing you can do to change it. nobody really knows why they do it (if anybody does they havent told me) they just do. if it gets to be a problem for you (size of needed water dish gets to be too large for tank, you can just remove the larger water dish and mist a couple times daily.

Hey,
They are not doing or performing any tricks on you mate, and that you can rest assure. This is typical behavior for bloods and short-tails. Give any blood or short-tail a large enough bowl in their enclosure and almost half of them will invariably soak. Either for a day or week and even month. I have a pair of blacks that love to soak given a chance. And believe me that the chance is always provided for them and mostly her, as in this one particular female I acquired from Divis back in September. To sum it up, it's typical behavior.
