Removal of water from false bottom area, question!

rc_racer_007 May 18, 2003 06:14 PM

ok right now im siliconing some pvc spacers to the bottom for my flase bottom. i am not going to drill the bottom of my tank. and i am wondering whats the best way to remove the water build up? i will not have a water feature. what im thinking is im going to make a valley, or a low point in the land scape. and in that low point ill fill it with some rocks for the frogs to climb on and ill put a pvc pipe from the flase bottom to under those rocks and place a pvc end cap on it. and of course ill have the rocks to hide it.

so when ever i need to drain the water i can move the rocks, remove the cap and install some tubing and siphon out the water. Is this the best way or am i missing a easier way?

thanks, i should have asked this earlier but my earlier plan sucked and i just relized that.

what I do is place about two high pressure tubes (long enough to go out of your aquarium and almost hit the floor) along the bottom of the tank. Then I place the rocks in and the tubing will go out from the back side of the aquarium.

Note: I make my own lids to my terrariums out of wood and I can run the tubing through holes drilled into the wood. You may be able to do this if you are using a lid that can be drilled.

After running the tubing I silicone the remaining hole and the I have a water drainage system @ the cost of less that 2.00.

i was thinking of something similar to that and my plan. my original plan was to put pvc pipe behind my back ground (there would be a noticable bulge, well to me any ways) and just feeding a tube down it and siphoning the water.

ill think about your plan. now that i think about it, i think my resivior will hold atleast 2-3 gallons. (the spaces im using are 1 1/2 tall and the tank is 36" x 12" so my humidifer holds 1 1/2 gallons i think. so i would remove the water accordingly with the total use of the water in the humidifer tank...

i think i would like my idea as long as it didnt have to be done every few days. once a week ok, i just dont want to have to disturb the frogs a lot. also h devil, check my link and see the canopy i made still gotta add a fan, light, and plumbing to it. and have my mother stain it.

Nice canopy! I made one for my mantella setup and then engraved Mantella Aurantiaca in the front. I have to make another one cause this one was poorly planned.

I changed my substrate to leaf litter and I think it was the worste thing I did! My mantellas (two days after putting them in there) one of my females dropped eggs and I cant find them anywhere!! Im going nuts!!

LoL

Lots of luck with the drainage system.

i like the way leaf litter looks, but i just dont think it would work good in a terrarium, maybe its just my taste.

mantellas are suppsoed to be kept on leaf litter. That's what their habitat is like in the wild.
