Sexing Tincs

schwartzenstobe Dec 19, 2005 09:21 AM

Had a question on my cobalt tinc. I have had him/her for 4 months. I got him/her as a juevinile. How do I tell the sex? Can I introduce the opposite sex in the 10 gallon tank? How old do they have to be to tell the sex?

You can sex tincs by looking at body shape and toe pads. Females are rounder whereas males are more slender. Males have larger toe pads. Sexing frogs can be difficult to impossible unless they are 9 months old or older. Take a picture of the frog and post it and we can tell the probable gender.

As far as adding another tinc, make sure you quarantine the new guy and get a fecal done before introducing the two. With Darts, a male and female can be housed together all year, but female tincs will fight with other females when they are adults.
