Blue Tail Package

ucsda Dec 19, 2005 03:35 PM

I have a question for those who have shipped the long, slender, indonesian monitors like blue tails. How would you recommend to send them out in over night express, and how would you pack the box if it's to be sent out in more northern areas? I know these lizards are known to be escape artists. Any information or advice would help, I've only shipped out turtles before. Thanks for your time.

I haven't personally shipped any reptile; however, I have had several sent to me. I have had a baby croc sent to me (alot like a blue tail) and it was in some cheap tub-a-ware. The tub-a-ware was pretty small, just enough room to let the lizard move a little. The rest of the box was full of newspaper to cheap the monitor from sliding around. The box had sytrofoam insluation (pretty much a stryrofoam box inside a card board box).
I have also had monitors sent to me in snake bags. Snake bags seem to work pretty good (I like it better then tub-a-ware) Sam kind of setup listed above (newspaper and styrofoam)
I would suggest some kind of heat pad for this time of year.
Good luck

we ship all winter long using the techniques described on our shipping FAQ. you definitely need a well insulated box. as for finding a company that will ship it for you without an account, that is a different battle : )
