is it really necessary??

Is a flourescent light really necessary for uro's? I was looking through the posts here and there and saw posts about flourescent lighting... The breeder I bought my 2 uro's from never said anything about a flourescent light, so I simply never used one. I have of course been using a 150 watt bulb.. but I was just wondering if a flourescent light was really necessary.

THANKS

Not just a fluorescent light but a specially designed UV light for desert animals. They need this to help them properly absorb the calcium in their diets. They are from an environment with lots of sun and their bodies are designed to have lots of UV light. One option is to take them outside some in warm/hot weather. Just don't do it in a glass tank as they can overheat. Reptariuims are good for this. -Lucy
