How would someone heat a walk in Incubator??

lynnsnakecharmer Dec 20, 2005 02:11 PM

My Hubby has given in and will build me a walk in incubator next to my snake room but he wants to know how I plan on heating it so he can plan the wiring. Can any one give my some suggestions?

Lynn,

Just use an oil filled radiator. You can find plenty of good ones at home depot. I use a 3 setting (500,1000,1500 watts) model that i plug into a thermostat. I just let it run on full blast and let the johnson controler turn it on and off as needed.

It works great but you will and should put it on a dedicated plug so you don't overload the breaker.

hope this helps,

Any type of radiant heating will drying things out pronto. Keeping humidity up might be your larger challange. Is there a steam heater, or a humidifier that also heats the air? Not sure, just some ideas. You could also make the room like a giant shower; water proof with a general misting system above (protect your heating element, whatever that may be). Easy to clean surfaces would be a must, as mold and bacteria would otherwise be a problem over time.

GOod luck

Ian

ps, I'm jealous of anyone who NEEDS a room sized incubator!
