New incubator and some other pics

muddoc Dec 20, 2005 06:26 PM

Hi all,
I just got done setting up the new incubator, and wanted to post some pics. While I was in the snake room, I thought I would take some pics of the new snakes as well. Hope you enjoy them.

Sorry, maybe that was confusing the way it was written. The pinstripe is a female, she just happened to be eating when I took the pic. I did get a good laugh out of that one though. LOL.

I suspected the other pic was the girlfriend, just couldn't help myself.

Tim & Monica,
Do you mind if I ask about your incubator? That thing looks seriously sweet.

Is the brand name "True" (I'm assuming from the pics)
Do they have a good website?

Have you plugged it in to see how efficient (or inefficient) it is with electricity?

Dare I ask how much it cost?

Your website looks great! Best of luck to you!

Hello,
Thanks for the compliments. As far as the incubator, True is the brand name, however, that is actually an old commercial refridgerator that we converted into an incubator. I have not tried to monitor the electric usage, I am not that concerned about it. As far as price, I got a great deal on the old fridge, and only paid $50. It needed some new seals, heat tape, shelves, and a thermostat. All in all, it cost about $500. If you have any more questions, please feel free to give us a call or drop us an e-mail.

Thanks Again,

mine may actually be a little less sophisticated as yours looks like an old milk/pop cooler transformed into an incubator perhaps? I should be able to incubate 16 clutches of eggs at the same time... if the females lay apart enough, I should be able to incubate a lot more than that in a given breeding season...

Anyways, here are some pictures of mine...

Have you hatched anything with it yet? Did you make it yourself?

The PVC tube up the side? Humidifier right?

nope.. it's a dry incubator.. humidity is in the shoe boxes, not in the incubator... the tube is for air circulation... there's a fan on top that can suck air up or push it down depending how I flip the fan... the pipe serves as a channel to make sure the air actually gets from the bottom to the top or from the top to the bottom.. in the current setup, I actually have not been using it.. the temperature was fairly constant with the top being the coolest.. I'll be adding 2' of heat tape on the top during the holidays which should correct the situation... tube probably going to be useless heh...

Hey Bristen,
Haven't hatched anything yet. I just got it up and running a couple of days ago. Still tweaking all of the temps and humidity. I just wanted to have plenty of time to get it perfect for this hatching season. Yes I did build it myself. It took a little time, but it was worthwhile and I had fun.

Thanks Again,

I would guess you'll have to add more heat tape.. I noticed you only had like 6' or 8' of the stuff? I had to use 9' in mine and I'll be adding another 2'... mine is really not efficient (not properly insulated), but it has successfully hatched a 2-egg clutch in 2005

Best of luck!
Bristen.

Actually, mine is having a problem with too much heat. I have two fans in the top that are creating heat, and I am going to have to figure out a way to keep it a liitle bit cooler. I am thinking of removing one of the fans. Your set-up looks really nice by the way.

Thanks Again,

I had that same issue last season with a fridge-u-bator.(The fan was keeping the temp right at 90F,nearly drove me mad, lol.)

Nice incubators ...both of you...i'm jealous...(hrmmm...wonder if the local 7-11 guy will notice if i walk out with one of their coke displays )
