Swolen cloaca hardened lump at tail??

savvgawd Dec 21, 2005 12:27 AM

Recently, a new large female I receieved has has some problems. Her cloaca seems swolen and very red, and now a hard lump has formed just underneath her cloaca toawrds the end of her tail. I've only had her aobut a month, but when I recieved her she showed small signs of a swolen cloaca and there was some very small parts of red "goo" around her cage. Now this lump has formed. I am also yet to get this girl to eat. Any of you seen this before? Any advice before a vet trip? Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you are saying the swelling is on the tail side of the vent? If so I would have to wonder if she could have been probed badly, and perforated. Supposedly this doesn't pose any risk for future breeding, but the warning is that females who are injured while probing can develop bacterial infections.

If I read your post wrong, and the swelling is on the body side of the vent, I would normally guess constipation.

Either way, with the "goo" and redness you are describing, I think a vet is your best bet at this juncture. I hope you know a good one!
