Amels...

Velox_415 Dec 21, 2005 01:29 PM

Mostly I'm wondering if anyone has seen any amels that look just like the ones SMR sell on their website: http://www.cornsnakes.net/gallery.php3?id=1

Normally when I see corns simply labaled "Amel" for sale they still have orange-ish backgrounds, so it sorta makes me wonder if all the amels they're selling look just like that one in the photo. Could it be a question of amel what? What other genes could it have to make it look that way? What that amel really reminds me of is a candy cane, except maybe a step back.

When I get a chance I'm gonna e-mail SMR and ask if all their amels look so pretty I'm just curious for other people's thoughts on it.

That's what they call a candycane, a high contrast amel with red blotches on a white background.

Amels can and do vary in terms of background color, amount of orange on the anterior regions, etc. Depends on the strain being "amel-ed" along with individual variation on the offspring and parents for that matter. Not all amels look like what is on his website. Too much variation out there to standardize an amel look to one single image. Be glad for that. Makes it more fun.

Don's amels look like candy canes because.....They are his B grade candy canes.

The amel Don has pictured is just one example of an amel.
Not all of his amels will look like that. There is an extremely wide varience in amels. Even amels from the same clutch can vary quite a bit.

Thanks 8) I sorta figured that anyways, since most people I've seen selling corns use "amel" as a catch-all. Now all I need to figure is do I want to chance trying to get a snake like the one pictured or that beautiful blue-eyed ultramel anery... I have a thing for blue eyes! ;p My first snake and all, hehe.

Ah! I see. That makes perfect sense. I know I'm strange, but I like the "B grade" snakes better; I love how they have the red AND orange. But that's just me. 8p
