your advise was appreciated

The broad range of responses I received amazed me. From a sociological standpoint it was interesting the diversity of owners and how they approach problems such as this.

Just wanted to thank all of those who responded to my question of how a monitor would adjust to growing up in a dorm setting. Some of you offered some really good advise, shared some personal experiences, and pointed out some things that I had not thought of before. Just wanted to express my appreciation to those who actually offered help and recommendations as to the best course of action. I also enjoyed hearing some personal experiences with these animals.

One of the things still holding me back from getting any sort of lizard is the fact that I cannot locate a local exotic animal vet within two hours of the college. The nearest one I know of is 5 hours from here. If any one knows of one in the Richmond, Newport News, or VA beach area, it would be very helpful and appreciated.

In any case, I am pleased that I have found an online community to share my hobby with or seek advise when the text books don’t offer answers. I look forward to sharing my art and future pet with you all.

(maybe a silly question...) but goodness, do you drive all the way from Charlettesville to Newport News to the vet? i think there are some exotic animal vets in NOVA, closer to you, specifically in fairfax and springfield, but i'm probly not telling you anything you dont already know. My folks live up there near Fredericksburg. none in that city either. Are there any ones in particular you would recomend in the NOVA area? I have found these just searching online today:

I knew Dr. Gustafson (sp?)personally, that was there years ago(newport News). He hatched some water monitors and was nice enough to give me one FREE!I've never heard of Nova.I go to a vet in Fishersville (35 minutes away)or to Fairfax just to visit my old motocross racing buddy. He is one of the best reptile vets on the east coast(Dr. Scott Stahl),he also gives great advise over the phone.I have only been to a vet about twice in the last 7 years and that was just for fecal samples on new monitors.Good luck with everything and stay away from that Pottery place there
