How often do you change your water?

BryanR. Dec 21, 2005 05:37 PM

I have 1 adult Male dragon who I have currently owned for nearly 5 years.

About 6 months ago, I retrofitted his enclosure and installed a false wooden floor with astroturf (easier to clean) and a cut out for his water container. The water container is pretty big, probably 2 feet by 1.5 foot by 6 inches deep.

I fill the container with 3 - 3.5 gallons of water. And I feel I only need to change it weekly. I hear many people change their water every other day, but this seems a bit excessive. I change his water the same time I change the water in my frog tank.

What do you guys do?

I have to change my dragon's water every couple of days, but it is young and in a smaller cage with a smaller dish. The dragon is also using the water dish as a toilet, so I have no choice but to clean it every time it "goes" in its water. The suggestion I have received is if it looks dirty or nasty, it is, so clean it. Not much help, I know. Sorry

Well almost all water dragons do their business in the water, hence the name water dragon. Usually after a week, the water is still clear, with just a couple of ... things floating around so I dump it and add 3 new gallons.

Do you 'scoop' on a daily basis? Any filtration system? Just wondering.
