For you camera nuts...

How much better would this pic be with a Digital Rebel XT, assuming I am the same horrible photographer? I am talking about the close up, would there be significantly more detail in the scales, etc?

Yes your photo would be 1000000% better even on auto mode. Here is a picture I took with my Nikon D70 which is a little more $$ with a few more features. The Rebel XT is a great camera though however I would go with a d50 as your first DSLR. Goodluck

Hi there. I recently bought the Nikon D50 (which I LOVE) along with a macro lense. I was looking into the Rebel at the time as well, both are great.

Here are some examples of shots I've been able to get with it (sorry, I know none of these are pythons, I just get excited about cameras...LOL).

These first three shots were taken with the macro lense:

And these are with the regular 18-55 mm kit lense that came with the camera:

My hubby bought me two cameras for x-mas - I just took the first one for a test run (don't tell) these were shot with the Canon Powershot S2 (super macro mode) - my back up in case this camra didn't work is the digital rebel but it looks like this one will get the job done!

Tosha, If you go to canons website they have close up lenses available for the S2. Its the same camera I am getting for Xmas, but Im not allowed to play with mine until then. It made the world of difference when I got the lens for my old canon so it will be fun to see what it does to the new one. Looks like that might have been the answer to the pic of the angolians scales.
