Leos Bleeding HELP ASAP PLEASEEEE

herp-keeper Dec 21, 2005 07:11 PM

Hey everyone
i've got 3 leos, all breeding size, 2 females one male.
theyre in a 30 gal.
a few weeks ago the male began biting the female on hte head head on.
a few days later i notiecd it again, he was holding the females head in a grasp between his jaws, he basically walked up to her from the FRONT and did that. thinking it wa an act of breeding or a ritual or something i let it go.
TODAY however about 20 minutes ago i noticed it yet again.
This time he held on and whiped her head back and forth pulling violently. He left 2 scars and drew some blood from a gash he created with his teeth right above her right eyelid.
I don't know what's going on.
i seperated him for now until i can get some answer because i really feel bad for this leo at this point.
if anyone can tell me whats going on PLEASE do so
id appreciate a reply ASAP as i would like to finally come to a solution.
thanks alot
any help is greatly appreciated!!

injuries like that do occur with breeding. if he is doing this head on, it is more likely a dominance issue and you may need to keep those two away from each other. You could try again later in the year, she may be more receptive to his breeding attempts then

oh yeah, and put a little neosporin or antibiotic ointment on that bite, just make sure she cant lick it and keep away from her eyes.

Sometimes leos just don't get along. Remember, each leo has its own personality and preferences. Just like you won't get along with everyone you meet, neither will leos. It's unfortunate when you want to breed them, but it happens. Did you put the female into the male's tank or the male into the female's? I've been told that it's always best to put the male into the female's territory and this indeed worked better with my two leos as apposed to when I put my female into the male's tank and he showed signs of aggression.

Just keep neosporin/antibiotic ointment on the wound of your leo, keep her tank clean, and make sure it doesn't get infected. She'll probably be ok. If you have anymore questions, feel free to email me at leogeckogirl@gmail.com
