Hey Mike,
Yeah, I've been building my own racks and cages for many years. I just developed a new one using collaplable plastic shelving from Home Depot and rubbermaid locking lid sweater boxes from Walmart. It involves minimal cutting (just the legs) and no sealing/staining/painting, which is nice, as I hate that aspect of cage building. My garage is full of plywood cages that have been assembled, but never sealed...I hate that $h!t !
Anyway...The boxes have about the same floor space as a 20 gallon long fish tank. I'm currently using it for yearling ball pythons that I've been raising up, but I'm gonna fill one up with easterns in the spring. I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow before the lights in the snake room go out. Later.

If you know how to read a tape and how to use a table saw.
Why did you build the rack where you had to keep the lids on the plastic containers?
Most people choose to have a lidless rack system. Could you not find containers without the gap along the top, or was there some other reason?
most of the snakes in my collection have extremely insane feeding responses and as soon as they feel their tub being slid out they are in a frenzi mode and do whatever they can to get out and get fed. thanks for the interesting question.
insane feeding response from your snakes is TRIGGERED by the kings seeing your HANDS.........hehehe j/k
It's just nice you don't keep 20 retics also.
Nice rack(s), never said that to a guy before.
Happy Herping,
Uncloudy
That made me laugh.

the tubs are sterilite brand, and i'll be needing more, another wall is gonna be racked-up next year, my snake room was my shop and now my new shop is going in the back yard.
My tubs are sterilite as well. I just always refer to them as rubbermaids lol.
I need to build some racks. I wonder.... Will it prevent more snakes from escaping lol.

out of a rack,,,BUT, feeding containers are a different story.

I also use sterilite tubs, but most all the stores here in California in the past 6 months only carry the new style of tubs. Their a lot cheaper, crack real easy, different hight dementions. So you better stock up if your racks are made for sterilite boxes.

and i'm sure i already seen the new ones, are they the ones that have the four half rounds on the bottom?
I belive so, I've been looking for the small 7 qt I guess, but can't find them, I found a bunch of 32 qt old style the other day at a store, old stock. But the store had stock up on the new style only. I guess I'm going to have to go on a quest to find them and stock up on all sizes.

I like the idea of keeping the tops on the rubbermaids/sterlite containers. When I build a rack, I plan on using the tops also.
Steve

keep hot's in racks w/o lids, they must be suicidal!
NOTHING beats a dobie...
got my 5th in July.
