My KSB has gotten snappy all of the sudden...

mdooli13 Dec 21, 2005 08:53 PM

I got a KSB a month or so ago, a juvenile only a couple months or so old. I used to dig it out of the sand i keep it in and handle it no problem. About a week ago it started striking me whenever I handled it, and continues to do so. Anybody else ever have this problem? Is there any way to stop it?

It has gone into ambush mode, as these snakes seem to be ambush predators. Some people seem to have luck taming boas down by handling them every day, feeding them outside of their enclosure, and feeding only dead prey items. You can try that, and hope for the best, but don't be disappointed if they don't tame too well.

Negative reinforcment. I have a surefire way to break the cycle! Step one is let the snake bite you as usual. Step two is put a little Tequela in a syringe. Step three is when the snake bites you squirt a little Tequela in its mouth. Do the above procedior for a week and wa la the snake is cured. The odd snake may become Alchaholic. LOL

It could be many reasons. Without details like the temps, feeding, and days handled, it's just going to be guess work. Well, even with those details, I guess, it is still just more probable guess work...

It was having an long distance internet relationship with "rhyion"s sand boa and they got into a fight and broke up... that's why they are both pissy.

Normal behavior. Mine was never happy unless it got me at least once. Sometimes they'll even let you handle them for a few minutes first, LOL. I've had rosy boas that were the same way.
