Question about Snows vs. others

whatever1234559 Dec 22, 2005 12:43 AM

When I bought my new snow, the store owner told me that snows get bigger than other snows. Is this true? Also, I already have a creamsicle that is about the same age as this new snow. I feed her 2 pinkies once a week. The store owner told me he would not suggest doing that with the snow for fear of impaction.....even if she wants the second pinky. My creamsicle does not have a problem with it. I only feed two pinkies because she always seems still very hungry after just one. After I give her the second one, she calms right down.

Is there a whole different set of rules for caring for a Snow as opposed to other cornsnakes?

P.S. They are both about 3 months old.

Thanks in advance!!

all the snow is is a different coloured snake.
thats like saying that "i can eat more than you as i have brown hair and you have blonde." makes no difference at all in my opinion. my snow used to eat like a pig. 3/4 mice a week if id let him. never had any problems with him.

That's the same I was thinking. I figured a corn snake is a corn snake, basically. You don't see care sheets for "Snow Cornsnakes" and "All others"? I can see for different "breeds" (so to speak), kinda like the differences in Poodles and German Shepherds. But not black Poodles and red Poodles.

I posted a long message but my computer froze when I hit the "post" button. So I will post basically as close as possible. Coloration is purely cosmetic. Has no effect on any other aspect aside from what the snake looks like. He was incorrect about impaction. Impaction is caused by a foreign object entering the digestive tract. He most likely meant constipation which also as far as I know can't be caused by eating to soon. You will quickly realise that about 95% of pet shop employees have no idea what they are talking about. They notice you are interested in snakes and see a potential sale. I am still being told snakes only grow as large as their tank. I was told this about a burmese python once....

This is off topic but hows your mbk doing? Is he still biting and musking? And what was that enclosure you had him in? He looks very nice, did he eat for you right away? Post more pictures when you can. Later

He is fine. He only bites after feeding time. I refill water bowls while they eat, and by the time I get back he has eaten his pinky and is ready to eat my fingers. He is ALWAYS lying right where his water bowl goes and if I try to physically move him he bites. So it is a tricky time. He eats perfectly. My fiancee calls feeding time "laughter" because "You can't have slaughter without laughter!" He hasn't musked in quite a few handling but he keeps his vent open just in case I try anything
