Dominant Diva Dragon

Here is the situation...Sydney my 2 plus year old female was bred last spring to Darwin, was successful with everything and was given most of the summer off to lounge with the other girls and fatten up. This fall she was reintroduced to Darwin. She flares her throat at him, runs from him, and generally avoids being bred. Darwin is no rookie and has succeeded with the other ladies just fine but our diva Sydney keeps him at bay. She is actually sitting about thier habitat with her beard puffed out almost all the time. She is very bossy around other girls as well.(there is always one in every crowd!). No passive waving here. Has any one else having demanding diva troubles? Will she chill out eventually? She is drop dead gorgous and maybe she is just too aware of her statis. Maybe mood music? LOL.

Sounds to me she isn't ready to breed yet. I would separate her from the male and other females for a few months. Has she been cooled (ie brumated)? If not you may want to brumate her then try her with the male in February/March. She may be more 'in the mood' then.

Sydney was cooled this fall as well as Darwin, but as you said she just isn't ready. My other dragons were all cooled in a similiar manner and have succeeded in laying eggs already. I really don't know why this would surprise me though because Sydney is my "gonna do it different" dragon. She is easily as big as Darwin. I'll be patient and give her some space, (Darwins not gonna like this) and perhaps she will change her attitude. Thanks and Merry Christmas!
