neck edema in gravid veiled

mchiara Dec 22, 2005 04:41 PM

Hi,
my female cham is almost 3 weeks gravid. The last few days (4-6) she developped edema (I guess) at the neck/chin area. She darkened her color few days after I moved her in the egg laying cage (11 days ago). Other times she turns lighter green again She eats, drink, and etc.... with no problem, but I don't like her appearance and, mostly I am worried about the edema. I read it could be too much Vit A, but I don't give her straight Vit A, she gets Beta carotene in the Herptivite and Calcium w/ vit D3. I also read that some females get edema at the neck area as they get close to lay eggs and the body is under stress...I am attaching a picture.

Does anybody know anything about this and tell me what could be the problem with her?? I am so worried!!

I too have this problem and I thought it was from excessive Vit A, now I don't give her any now, seemed worst as she got nearer to laying and subsided a bit after, but she still have excessive fluids in her gular area. All I can do is make sure she drinks a lot and it appears the edema is not really going away. Strange you never gave her Vit A, some more info would be nice on what really causes this and if the damage done is irreversable. Also some swelling around her shoulders. She seems really healthy except for the edema.
