Bought the tank set up and broke the tank.

Michelle1010 Dec 22, 2005 05:29 PM

Just want to let everyone know that I did purchase the 30 gal tank set up for $175. I had to fix it a little by taking off all of the old glue and putting on new. I let the tank settle for a week so the fumes would clear. Well, I washed the tank and was sanitizing it in the tube and it slipped out of my hand and cracked. I couldn't believe it and my heart sank since I worked hard into making an old tank almost new. Now I have to start from scratch looking for a tank to fit the stand or buy tank and stand new, which I don't want to do. What is the best size for a corn snake? I know some have replied to my first reply but not everyone said the same.

i was one of the posters, what i was saying is are you sure the tank is a 30 gallon or a 29?
reason i ask this question is a 30 gallon measures 36 inches by and 12 inches from front to back.
a 29 gallon tank measures 30 inches long and 12 inches, the difference is the 30 gallon is a "long" tank, the 29 is a "high" tank......
is the tank is 30 inches you could go with a 20 long tank which is 30 inches long.
i hope that makes sense.

The tank was 36 long, 12 front to back, and 16 top to bottom. I thought it wasn't big enough, front to back. I wasn't sure though. The guy that sold it to me said it would fit an adult corn comfortably. My son's corn is probably 32 inches long and is probably 14 months old.

yep thats a 30 long.... good size, most people keep there corns in 20 longs, which are 30 inches long

Yeah, it was 30 long. I have to look for another tank now. I don't know whether to get the same size tank, 30-40 breeder or 20 long. I have that stand from the first tank. My son has a 5 shelf stand that would fit the 20 long. The 20 long doesn't seem big enough to me, but I don't know much about this.

When it comes to adult snakes, especially snakes that like to travel such as corns and rats then I say nothing is ever to big for them. I would just go with the 30 long, you have a stand already for it. 40gl breeders are great also if your going to add fake plants and climbing branches.
