Wholesale VS Retail

brett5958 Dec 22, 2005 06:06 PM

Tried this on the business board but there hasnt been a post on there in 2 days

I was just wondering if there is a formula that can be used to find out a reasonable wholesale price. i.e. 50%, 30%, etc. or is it variable dependant upon the morph. Also what kind of #'s are generally purchased to receive said price. I am a long way from ever spending those kind of $$$ but I was just wondering. Thanks

Because of the type of market this is, the only ball morphs other than normal you MIGHT find wholesale pricing on are pastels and albinos. With things like this and especialy the pet trade, the markup will vary from distributor. If you are looking for quantity discount, (not the same as wholesale, wholesale is really just tax free because its intended to resell) just call some of the breeders, find one who has 4 of what you are looking for and see if they are willing to bargin. Most of the time, I have found, the big breeders who have larger quantitys of animals are not in a hurry to sell them, so find 2 small breeders with 2 of the morph you are looking for, and play lets make a deal. Some people dont like to make deals, thats just how they do business, move on to the next person. The last project I bought I got half from a big guy who I told how many I wanted and he offered me a killer deal before I even asked... then it took me about a month of watching, emailing, calling, and bargining to get the other half of the project. If it was for a project or for a collection, I would not buy from a middle man (typically what a wholesaler is, but not always). You dont know what you are getting, and they might (I have found almost always) tell you just what you want to hear to make the sale.

The difference in wholesale and retail is wholesale items are bought to resell... retail are the wholesale items being sold to the end consumer.
