Humidity questions!

FlammySnake Dec 22, 2005 06:22 PM

To start off with, my 2 chameleons are now down to one as my girl Cecilia had passed away about 2 weeks ago. Very shocking since it was my male Mr. Electic Ocean who was having all the problems. One day she seems fine and the next, on floor dead. Since then I've decided to take a closer look at my husbandry and decided to make some changes. While I didn't seem to have any major flaws, I decided to improve Mr. Electic Ocean's setup and he has gotten past his dehydration problems and is doing better than ever. But now, on to my questions! I've decided to get a fogger to increase the humidity in his cage but I'm having some troubles deciding on how to set up the thing. Soooooo, to anyone who may use the Exo-terra brand foggers, 1. How do you keep the water from constantly splashing everywhere? 2. Is setting it up on top of the cage for the fog to come down the best place to put it? 3. How long and how many times a day should I keep it on for? I can't be around all day long to monitor it and turn it on and off as needed. Using a timer seems like a good idea, but my house is turning into a mess of wires and timers, but I'll get another one if necessary. Thanks in advance to anyone who may help!

You would get the same effect by using an ultrasonic humidifier and "piping" it towards the enclosure. The reservior would be larger (~2.5 gallons) - so you wouldn't have to replace the water as often.

Yeah I knew I should have checked there for ideas first, but I had just got back from a long day of christmas shopping and was on the verge of a christmas breakdown. But thanks!

Hi,

I saw replies with very extensive information about setting up an humidifier for cham.
I am pretty new with cham. and when I started I read lots about them plus searched on the market for the right tools. About mister/humidfiers I ended up getting the Mr. Moisture from Wetworks. This works great for me that I was pretty new to this and, yes, it comes with a timer. Guess the timer is great for mister, thou. Mr. Moisture is more expensive than any mister you can make yourself or some foggers I saw.
I read reviews about some "foggers" that they actually don't spray fog/mist but is more like a fine dripping.
