HELP, TAIL BREAK!!

Zeus Jul 24, 2003 08:04 AM

okay you guys have got to help me. this morning i had my new blue tegu out and running around along with my redfoot tortoise. the tegu, Cappaccino was just kinda chillin on the floor next to the basking area i had set up when the tortoise, Gus came over and laid on his tail. he got startled and made a run for it. well half his tail came right off. i am sooo disapointed as he was so perfect and beautiful but what i am more concered with is will he be okay? i know this happens sometimes but what should i do? will it grow back at all? i would really appreciate any responses as i am flippin out here. thanks

I just went through the same thing with one of my B/W's. Her tail is growing back already. From what I found out from Bert, as long as there is not alot of bleeding, and there are no flies that can gather on it...it will heal itself and it's better to leave it exposed so nature can do it's thing. He recomended putting nothing on it unless there is alot of bleeding and no vet visit unless it an infection happens later.
Mine in fine now. She buried alot for a few days...but is perfect now.

I know how it feels to panic and just feel terrible when this happens. If you didn't care so much you wouldn't have posted , so consider it a learning experience
