What kind of Garter (or is she a Ribbon?) snake is this?

Amaia Dec 23, 2005 06:04 AM

I purchased her (just assuming the snake is a her because I don't like calling my pets 'it's' & she looks as big as my former female Garter snake I had) from PetCo not too long ago, she was labeled a Garter snake and the guy mumbled a comment about her being a 'beautiful racer'.

I'm still in the process of fattening her up and getting rid of her mites (she already had them when I bought her she was crowded with four other Garter snakes).

Sorry if the huge pictures lag your computer!

From what I can see, the lateral stripes seem to be on scale rows 3 & 4. This would make your snake a Bluestripe Ribbon (Thamnophis sauritus nitae). The bluestripe garters, would have lateral stripes occupying rows 2 & 3. She's a lovely snake, good luck on nursing her back to health.
