My pretty Cadberry saw me with a Berry Red colored lipstick yesterday and seemed to get quite stressed, turned (ORANGE, Tyler, hehehhee ) But my camera was not at hand.

But now today , he seems to be nervous when I approach, instead of calm and friendly, he seems to be scared, made me feel SAD
and he got some orangey strips when he looked at me.

The lipstick is the only thing I had on different yesterday, I thought of it because he was staring at my face,

Hope he will like me again soon, geesh............

HEhehe, Stitch is the same way with my Fiance. If he comes home and he's wearing his brown UPS uniform, Stitch puffs up and gets all manly, but if Trent is just wearing his regular clothes, he's o.k. with him...

Or Sam will wig out if I'm wearing Red, He'll fire up and follow me intently.
He'll be o.k. just give him some time.....

Actually I'm not surprised. Some cham species are very reactive to changes in color on faces or anything that emphasizes a mouth. Red is a "hot" stressy signal whereas blue or green would be passive (have you ever noticed his reaction to you wearing blue or green versus brights like orange?). Deremensis show breeding condition with a change in lip color to bright red. Some chams including panthers have a special color marking pattern along the lip that is supposed to fool another animal into thinking the cham has a bigger mouth full of huge teeth. It's called "scia dentata" I think.

about lip coloration and fooling others with the BIG mouth look, never heard that, very interesting.

In answer to your question about ever noticing his reaction to blues or greens, I actually never got ANY sort of reaction until yesterday, with this brighter RED lipstick I had on.

He is always quite calm, matter of fact it's sort of a joke here, and with Tyler and I, I can never get him FIRED UP, a very mellow sort of fellow.

I always talk to Cadberry all through out the day every day, he's in my dining room, I walk passed his cage a zillion times a day I also have had lipstick on before, but NOT as red.

Theres no doubt in my mind it was the RED lips, he would not take his eyes off my face, even as he was trying to RUN backwards,away from ME, He was moving so fast He was falling off his branch LOL

But what bothers me is, like I said, today he seems to be staring at me and seems nervous/stressed like he remembers I was RED, and now some sort of threat instead of his friend.

Green Juice-boxes! Yes, My little neice was over a few weeks ago with a little apple juice box in her hand, and when Cobalt Caught sight of it, he puffed up and lunged at it...even though he was still inside the cage. Later, I brought various objects around his cage to see how he would react with each item, and he only felt threatened around the "ALMIGHTY" juice box of doom! LOL I actually have a pic of him and the juice box that I will have to post, but Im not suprised at all how Cadberry Reacted!

Luna could not stand any sweaters - regardless of color. I have 3 that are all the same, black, raspberry-like color and a blue/green. She would freak if I put that fuzzy arm in her cage! I'd go put on a t-shirt and she was fine! Silly girl

As for the Cad, maybe he's just surprised at his own reaction(!) and needs another day to mellow. I am sure he'll be fine, but I guess the bright red santa hat is out!

My Nosey Be male would fire up and shrink from my husband on occasion and we could not figure out why....as he was always so friendly...until we figured it out that he would fire up everytime my husband would were his striped shirt. We then did experiments with color and sure enough....everytime he wore stripes hagrid would get defensive...so.....maybe the lip coloration to the Cadman was a sign of agression.......(my hagrid's lips would fire up yellow)...
