Looking for eastern Indigo advise

Ok, I am a real newby to the laws and everything else that is going on with these animals. The only thing I do know is that not that many folks are breeding them and you need a permit to transfer them across state lines.

How hard is this permit to get? I recently saw posted that there is a wait for paper work and a $25 fee. Are there rquirements that have to be met? Also, who do you apply through?

I live in a state where they are not regulated, I just need to get one here if I cannot find one locally.

Also, any help on who is producing them would be appreciated, can't seem to turn up anything on the searches. What do they go for now days?

Any elp would be greatly appreciated.

Indigosnakes.com has a list of breeders and you can download permit information and the actual permit form.

Expect to pay at least 800 for an Eastern hatchling next season. I believe application fee for Federal permit for interstate transport is now 100.

I received my permit today, it took a little over six weeks to come through. The permit fee is indeed now $100.00. In regards to obtaining a Couperi follow the advice of the previous post & contact the breeders on the website. In addition monitor the classifieds on this website as much as possible, I've obtained all my Drymarchon this way. As the demand exceeds the supply they dont last long. Good luck on your quest, Drymarchon are the most rewarding snake you could own & well worth the effort.

You might get a better answer from someone who lives near you, or you may find out it's just plain not-legal where you live.

Let us know and we'll help move you along.

I live in WA state. I am reasonably sure they are legal here. Also, I'd like to thank everyone for all the excellent information. I have a much better idea about how to go about this now. Sounds like they have gone up in price quite a bit since the last time I paid attention to adds for them. They were about $300 back in the mid-90s. But $800 is really not bad for such a neat animal. I don't keep a huge collection of snakes anymore and have not kept up with the current prices and availability. Rather I have 1 pet snake now, and was looking into getting just two or three more of the ones I always wanted. I was always under the impression that a permit would be difficult to obtain (i.e. zoos only).
