mould growing on wood

rajeshj Dec 23, 2005 05:35 PM

Hello,
i have recently acquired a garden phase atb which is about 2ft in length. i have it in a 30 gallon tall hexagonal terrarium. To perch on i have 2 pieces of i believe grapevine, and 1 large peice of ghostwood. I know these guys like it humid, so i also added several live plants i.e creeping figs and a vine. My humidity is about 70-80% and the temp is about 79-80, im going to buy a heating pad shortly to get the temps up higher. With this wood, and the high humidity mould has begun to grow. I just want to know if this could hurt my snake at all and if there is a way to prevent it from growing. Any input is much appreciated.

Hey,
I have had the same problem once or twice in the past, despite good ventilation grapevine seems particularly vulnerable to mold. Anyway, I found a really good solution - Trifectant. You can buy it in a powder form, or premixed liquid. Just spray it on the grapevine and you can throw it right back in the cage, it is so safe that you don't even need to let it air-dry like many other brands. It also kills viruses, bacteria, and fungi (molds and yeasts)!
Good stuff,
Warm regards,
Brandon
