Brumation/pooping/feeding question

stcloudbadger Dec 23, 2005 08:58 PM

Our nine month beardie has been in brumation since Late October. She basically stays in her log 6 days a week, the other day she will come out and bask and feed on 1-2 super worms and some occasional greens. She hasn't had a bowel movement in over a month. Should we be concerned? Her weight seems to be staying steady and she's not bloated either. Should we be concerned?? She is 17 1/2" long and 324 grams the last time she was weighed by the vet (September).thanks

superworms are not great to feed to bearded dragons in general, especially younger ones such as yours. the shell is very hard and does not digest well in a beardies digestive track. 1 or 2 a day is the max i would ever feed my dragons....but i just plain stopped using them all together when i had a dragon get impacted from eating them.

if the dragon doesn't eat much....it won't poop much. So, it's kind of on your judgement....like, do you know if it has defecated the food you remember feeding it last?

9 months is kinda early for brumation...usually the first winter is like a half brumation and next winter the dragon will be out cold for a much longer time. Are you experienced with brumation? Are you sure that it really is brumating and not sick? (i hope i'm not scaring you!)

if it is awake and not pooping try a warm bath.
