We also breed Sumatrans at the molurus breeding center here in good old "Tropical Colorado". According to the info I received at the time I purchased the pair of wild-caught Sumatrans, they were obtained from the "hide-hunters" that just bleach out the skins anyway for making boots etc. They sell the nicer red ones and strange patterned specimens for more money to interested individuals.
The pair came into the States in December and I set them up and they bred Jan,Feb,March! Eggs laid end of June, picture is of a holdback that is just now changing to the red coloration and has the yellow markings of the female with a copper-orange head. Male has a black head that at times can lighten remarkably to a beautifull slate-grey. It is just amazing they can change the coloration of the head so dramatically, the female with the copper colored head only lightens and darkens a little?
Happy Holidays
