variability............................sorry large pics............

TomChambers Dec 24, 2005 10:15 AM

this is one of my favorite holdbacks from '05.

she was noticably different from her siblings, I almost sold her then when the guy had her in his hands I said no.

I'm not saying she is anything other than a posible het ghost, but she is just so darn good looking to me(I may be biased).

here she is(the lighter one)with her father(unproven ghost)and one of her sisters.
sorry but the large photo shows the colors a little better.

here is a closer pic of her and her sisters colors.

the pics were taken with the flash, so they don't rally show the best.
but that was all I could get before she started to bite(mean little b*%&h)

Thanks for looking

I've got a 50% het ghost girl that is much lighter than her sisters and looks a lot like her light 100% het father. I've even seen and heard of some het ghosts shedding clear. Wonder if it's another one of these not always 100% recessive genes. Best of luck proving your male!

Thanks Randy, I hope he proves too

The male sired 5 clutches last season, and there was a lighter female in 4 of them.

They were not as light as this female, but she grew lighter with each shed.

so maybe the others are getting ligher as well??

I wish I knew where they went, but I wholesaled entire clutches so I have no idea where they ended up.

Of course if he is a genetic ghost, like he certainly looks to be, then all of his offspring should be hets. If only some of them are lighter than the others it would require a sporadic action for the lightness to be caused by a single ghost gene in some of them and not in others. Of course maybe dad's presumed two copies aren't identical. Still, not being seen in all hets certainly could indicate that another gene (other than the single ghost gene) is responsible for the light appearance of some of the ghost hets. But given the several other examples of sporadic het signs (pied, granite and green in Burmese pythons) I'm not ruling out the possibility that being het ghost can make some balls somewhat ghost like.

Randy,

it will take a few more years to try to prove him out.

I, as i'm sure you have, have hatched clutches with degrees of variabilty.

I don't think it is anything out of the norm, but I really like here looks anyway.

Good luck with your breeding season, and have a happy safe holliday.

Who says you can't have it all. She's gorgeous. I don't blame you for not wanting to sell her. Good luck.

thanks Louis,

I held back several biters from last season, but they eat sooooo well I'm glad I did. LOL

I wish you a merry christmas, and I hope your season goes well.
