Update about sick babies.

ChameleonTattoo Dec 24, 2005 10:37 AM

Everyone is still alive, although in grave condition. I have 8 now that are little black babies sleeping on a limb. Breaking my heart. I never thought it would get worse before it gets better. The vet is coming over today to check on them.
Everything was broken down and decontaminated and set back up. I have to redo that again next week. Besides the regular daily cleaning.
Thanks for everyones prayers and support. I will keep you posted.
Merry Christmas!

Thank you so much.
I almost just had a heart attack. I was feeding/cleaning. Inspecting poops. I found WORMS. Nasty worms came out of 2 of my babies butts. I was NOT prepared for that. Nasty! I wish someone would have warned me.
But, on a lighter note, that must be a good sign right?

The vet was just here. I got an A on my sanitation.
Heres all the results and meds.
Baytril: Once for 5 days then every other day for 10 treatment for :Pseuadmonas Aeruginosa.
Strongid Suspension: Once every 10 days for 3 treatments for: Roundworm and Pinworm.
Trimethoprim/Sulfa: once a day for at least 21 days for: Coccidia.
Ivermectin Spray: Once a week on animal and cages and accessories for 4 treatment for : Mites.
(We also remove cages for 24 hrs and treat the room with a houshold mite spray.)
Bene Bac- Once a week till off the antibiotics.
To add my own remedy to the mix I am using -Repta Aid- every other day to try to stimulate their appetites. 3 of them still don't have their eyes open so I syringe feed.
It's sooooooo much work. But I love them! I am on poop patrol every hour. I collect and disinfect. I also have all bugs in cup feeding so they dont trampple through anything! It's almost so clean in there you could bypass the dropped 3 second rule
Merry Xmas!

Thats the long and short of it. More long than short. Everyone is still alive. The worms I saw today were the round worms.

I think you've done a great job here. Instead of "shotgunning" meds and antiparasite drugs yourself you stuck with your vet, found out exactly what bugs you were dealing with, and have a plan of attack. I'm glad you were able to get results from the vet you were leery about earlier. The cultures and fecals are so important to do...and almost all competent vets can test and find out what the invaders are even if they haven't seen chams much. Too bad your babies had to go through all this (its a lot!) but I am hoping the best for all of them!
