Bolivian redtails?

bigbarret85 Dec 24, 2005 07:24 PM

Hey everyone. Long time reader, first time poster. My question is are Bolivian redtail boa constrictors commonly sold in the U.S.? My second question is what is their typical size compared to other redtail boas? I recently purchased a baby boa constrictor from a reptile show in Arlington, texas on the 18th. The dealer sold her as a true redtail but im not sure of her origin. Her coloration is a rather dull grey background with light brown saddles getting darker towards the tail. She measure 27 inches as of today and is said to be born in 05'. haha, i guess my other question is can anyone identify her as a bolivian redtail. I know a picture would be more helpful and i am working on that right now, but until then any help would be appreciated. thanks

This is an example of what a Bolivian looks like. Note the tail length and head shape. This will give you a better idea of what your Boa is

1st: My question is are Bolivian redtail boa constrictors commonly sold in the U.S.?
Yes Bolivian boas (BCA) are breed and sold in the USA. They are not as common as the normal BCI but you can find them.

2 nd: My second question is what is their typical size compared to other redtail boas?
They are about the same size but most BCA get fatter then BCI. Normally around 6' to 8' long. BCA's tails are shorter than other boas.

3 rd: can anyone identify her as a Bolivian redtail.
I would need to see a picture of her.

Here are some pictures of the Bolivians BCA (Amarali) that I have owned. I still own the baby BCAs.

Thanks to everyone who helped me out. I am still working on getting some pictures up, but i'm having trouble as you can see in later posts. Somthing i have noticed in ya'lls pics are the "widows peak" in the Saddle shape. My boa lacks that pattern but has similar coloration. Her splotches or saddles are more hour-glass shapped with points from each top and bottom side. Not sure how much that will help. I'll keep crackin at those pictures. Thanks again.

Hi Ben,

If you would like just e-mail me the pictures and I will let you know if your boa is a Bolivian.

Take care
