Weight loss question

mynewhobby Dec 24, 2005 10:05 PM

Hello,

I am a little worried about one of my female balls. She is about 18 months old and has been off feed most likely due to weather changes. Her last meal was on 11/27/05 and she weighed about 1000 grams at that time. I weighed her today and she lost about 50 grams. Does that sound like too much weight to lose in less than one month or is that normal? Usually my females will go off feed for a few weeks but lose little or no weight. I am going to take her to the vet on monday due to do a check up to minus out some possibilities. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also Happy Holidays to you all!!!!

Thanks,

there could be a couple possiblities. first did you weigh your snake before or after the meal? If it was after the snake has probably passed that meal and that would be the reason for a weight loss. Also if the snake was about to shed when you weighed her, that could also be teh reason for the weight loss. With that said don't worry about it. 50 gms is not alot of weight to loose. I have one female that was sold to me as cb that I'm guessing wasn't that will gain up to 1000 gm and then go on a hunger strike and get all the way to almost 700 gm before she starts feeding again. She will probably never make it to breeding size but she's a fun project in trying to get her to eat consistantly. Now if her last bowel movement was liquid or runny then i would take her to the vet asap. But this is one of those things that anyone that keeps balls will eventually learn that you just have to ride it out 95% of the time.

Thanks for your reply I appreciate it. I actually weighed her a few days before her last meal and she was not in shed also. I just thought 50 grams was alot of weight to lose in three and a half weeks. I will continue to monitor her more closely for now. I hope you have better luck with your female in the near future.
women always giving us problems.......just joking lol
