about a month ago i got a job at a pet supplies plus store here in virginia. there was a tortoise there, said to be a forest hingeback tortoise, who was doing kinda rouph. it was mostly just teary eyes, which i would wash out gently and give him "turtle eye drops"
i decided to read up about them, and couldnt find much. what i did find is that in care they are more like box turtles then tortoises, in that they like to swim alot and need alot of humidity and more protein and insects and stuff in there diet.
the enclosure we had him in was like a 25 gallon long with alot of heaters (two lights and an undertank) a very small water bowl and we fed him dry tortoise pellets and soft canned iguana food.
i decided that i really like him and used my discount to take him home, with some complementary food and stuff. i keep him in a big rubbermaid with soft forest soil stuff, a big water bowl he can soak in and fresh veggies and bugs every day. its cooler then it was in the store, but im pretty sure its warm enouph for the little dude and his eyes have cleared up and he eats pretty well.
im sorry this is so long but i just wonder if anyone has any more information, tips, or experiences that could help me out.
