Pacific Gopher dug up by back hoe

jasonw Dec 26, 2005 01:08 AM

Figured I would show a couple pictures of my latest rescue, These were taken the day I got it. The snake is a Pacific Gopher Snake and was dug up by a back hoe. He has a nasty gash on his side just down stream from his head and some trauma to his spine. The vet says there really is not much he can do. He says he will either get better or he wont simple as that. He gave me some stuff for the gash on his side witch I must say is healing nicely and he is gaining more and more movement on the lower portion of his body every day. The vet tells me it would be in the snakes best interest to join my collection as he will most likely never be 100%, I currently maintain this species so I figured what the heck and he is now my latest addition. I will get some newer pictures uploaded soon to show everyone

...that snake really lucked out-what are the chances he'd be rescued, let alone by a herper with the knowledge and means to get him the proper help.

Well it was actually by chance. The tractor work was being done on a property owned by a client of mine. I don’t know the exact turn of events before he contacted me but I know the tractor operator found it and some how got it to him and he called me. I was told it was a large gopher snake. I was not told the whole story or given its condition until I arrived at his house to pick up the snake. It is indeed however a lucky snake. Like I was told it will either get better or not. So far it appears to be getting better but we are still walking a thin line here and only time will tell. From what I understand just because it is getting better dose not mean it cant take a turn for the worst at a moments notice so my fingers are staying crossed.
