Black Rat snake

idothatforme Dec 26, 2005 12:24 PM

Hey everybody!! umm ive had a black ratsnake for about 4 months now. hes just over 2 feet long and i cannot get him to eat. he has only eaten about 4 times since ive had him. i just cant get it to eat every week. im thinking hes in some sort of brumation, but ive got my snakes in a room without windows but with a light hooked on to a timer: 11 hrs on and 13 off, temps are at 88 during the day and 79 at night.....

i was informed that it was a captive bred snake; but u never know nowadays. i got it from a petstore on cape cod, the guy who sold it to me said he was a drop off. from what i know it was originally purchased from the reptile expo as a hatchling in NH of last year.

Temps seem high. Try about 85 in the day and 70-75 at night. How many hides? It is fairly normal for them to be picky this time of year. Try feeding smaller sized meals. as in mice=hoppers, hoppers=fuzzies fuzzies=pinkies. Also go to the rat snake forum. Lots of wonderfull people over there too (including me )
