Anybody Speak Head Bobbing?

snowqueen4 Dec 26, 2005 02:02 PM

LOL My Zilla is just a year old. Today I saw him bob his head and he turned his beard black. First time I'd seen him do that!
He has been bobbing lightly twice, then like three deep bobs and three more light bobs. It's the same each time! I wonder what he's saying! LOL

He's saying, "get off my turf before I bite the crap out of you", you have to reply (in head bobs),"I'm sorry for entering your space and will feed you crickets shortly". This can be sometimes hard, 1 head bob (very slowly) and another bowing your head down to show calm/submissive. With this you and your beardy will be happy maleea.

My dragon does that when a potential mate is around. It is part of the mating ritual. The beard is also part of aggression. Did you sneak up on him?
This may not be something that people want to hear, but a lot of lizards can sense when a women is on their cycle. Iguanas and bearded dragons, some others get a little temperamental around those times. I don't know if this is proven, but I am in a classroom with 20 vet techs (in training), and they are all female. This is what they told me

His cage is in the living room and always has been in the same place. He can see anybody coming. When he did it, I was sitting on the couch.I just find the whole thing so fascinating. He definitely had a certain set of bobs; he always did it the same way, with the same number of deep bobs and light bobs. I wonder if anybody has ever studied the bobbing language. I'll bet someone has! LOL As far as my cycle, maybe he knows something I don't! LOL
