My wife says alligators shed-I sez they don't. Somebody settle this bet....

The next 3 diaper changes are ridin' on this! I've searched every alligator fact sheet that I can find-no mention.

They do. I have included a couple of quotes from various sources on this subject.

"Snakes and lizards shed all their skin at once every once in a while. Crocodiles, alligators and turtles shed their skin in small patches all the time."

"Their skin is covered with non-overlapping scales composed of the protein keratin and often studded with bony plates called scutes. (Lizard scales are similar, but lack the bony plates.) The scales are shed individually, so crocodilians do not molt (shed their skin all at once) like snakes do. This skin does not provide much insulation, preventing crocodilians from inhabiting cooler climates."

Hopefully you don't owe her to much on this bet.
