everglades

draybar Dec 26, 2005 05:08 PM

Just thought I would post a couple of pictures of my rescued, evil, kinked everglades rat snake....lol
He was a non-feeder with several kinks and he had about three layers of retained sheds (full body)
It took me a couple of weeks of soaking to get the sheds off and almost three months to get him feeding on his own. A lot of tricks and a lot of force feeding.
He is a fiesty thing, hasn't ever really calmed down.
The kinks aren't quite as bad as when he was a hatchling but they are still fairly noticeable when handeled.
He has been eating on his own and growing steadily for about a year now.

Jimmy, that's a beautiful snake and probably has great genes. I got a male Chinese twin-spot a couple years ago that was kinked as a baby, but the snake has great color and pattern and looks normal as a subadult. He's now my number one breeder, as I didn't have a good male before, and I'm sure he'll do a great job of passing on his genes. Good luck....TC

I thought you sold your Everglades. . . Or is this a different one?

When I got this everglades I got two of his siblings and a yellow rat.
You might remember seeing pictures of the yellow rat also.
One of the siblings was eating and had one tiny kink a little above it's cloaca. As it grew the kink disappeared and this snake grew to be exceptional looking.
Zack aka snakemaster got the good everglades and the yellow rat from me during the summer.
The other sibling never did start eating and died.
I can't really sell it so I guess I will keep it..unless I can talk zach into taking it off my hands.

Who says every snake needs to be perfect? My wife's favorite is an 8.5 foot "rescue Boa" that is as chewed up and ugly as they come.

I also recieved a non-feeder butter corn with the everglades and yellow rat. She took a little over 5 months to begin feeding on her own.
She was also kinked.
She has several kinks and even twists slightly when she crawls.
She is an '02 but probably only about 26 or 27 inches long. She was still only about 10 or 12 inches long when she finally began eating on her own at 5 months old.
She is a good eater now. She eats one hopper every Sunday and doesn't even refuse when shes in the blue.
I can't sell her or breed her so she will just be a pretty little pet until she passes on.
Which should be a long time now.
