legal?

Rouen Dec 26, 2005 06:14 PM

I have an oprotunity to get an eastern boxie, but I'm not sure of my local laws, if no one can answer my question here I'll go ahead and ask my FWS or Parks and Recreation or one of those. anyway I live in Massachusetts, all I could find was this; http://www.mass.gov/dfwele/dfw/dfwpets.htm ,which leads me to believe it's illegal.
"Turtles:
Lawful (no MassWildlife permit required): All turtles, except rare species and those below. "
anyway input will be appreciated.

I believe that the Eastern Boxie is protected in Mass but you might be able to get a permit. Your best course of action is to contact Mass F/G for the most up to date info.

I just e-mailed FWS so hopefully I'll hear from them tomorrow, Easterns classified as a species of special concern in this state.
Thanks for the reply Ed.

Easterns are protected, but you can legally own other box turtle species.

I already knew about other ssp., Wyv, as I currently have 3 adults and a juvenile.
Thanks for the input though.
